Foxglove (Digitalis purpurea) is an imposing biennial plant with tall spikes of tubular flowers spotted inside. The flowers, in shades of pink, purple, white or cream, are highly decorative and attract bumblebees. The plant prefers partial shade and fertile, moist soils, and self-seeds readily. The whole plant is toxic if ingested, so it is grown for ornament only, with care. Foxglove brings height and charm to shady, naturalistic gardens.
