The fruit is rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, eaten fresh or, more commonly, dried. The plant is hardy, adapts to a range of soils and prefers a sunny position. The shrub produces violet flowers and fruits abundantly from the second or third year. Goji has become very popular as a health food, added to cereals, smoothies and desserts.
