Nasturtium (Tropaeolum majus) is an annual plant with cheerful orange, yellow or red flowers and round, decorative leaves. Both the flowers and the leaves are edible, with a slightly peppery, mustard-like taste used in salads. The plant may be trailing or climbing, flowers abundantly and self-seeds readily. It prefers sun and poor soils, flowering more generously where the ground is not over-fertilised. Nasturtiums attract pollinators and are also used as a trap plant for aphids in the garden.
