The leaves are used as a seasoning for meat, sauces and stuffings, and also in teas and gargles. The plant is drought-resistant, prefers sun and well-drained soils, and forms woody clumps. It has recognised properties for supporting digestion and the health of the mouth and throat. Sage is both a valued culinary and medicinal plant and a decorative nectar source.
