Welsh onion (Allium fistulosum), also known as bunching onion, is an onion species grown for its tender tubular leaves. Unlike the common onion, it does not form a large bulb but slender stems, white at the base and green at the top. It is eaten fresh in salads, as a garnish or in Asian dishes, with a fine, slightly pungent flavour. The plant is hardy, perennial in favourable conditions, and is harvested throughout the season. Welsh onion is easy to grow, including in pots, and is always to hand for fresh flavour.
