Mint (Mentha × piperita), including spearmint and peppermint, is a perennial aromatic plant of the Lamiaceae family. Its menthol-rich leaves have an unmistakable refreshing scent, used in teas, lemonades, desserts and cooking. The plant is very vigorous, spreads quickly by runners and prefers moist soils in sun or partial shade. It has recognised digestive and calming properties and is one of the most popular tea plants. Growing it in a pot or a confined space is recommended, as it spreads rapidly in the garden.
