The leaves are traditionally used to soothe skin irritation and support the respiratory tract. The plant grows wild in meadows and along roadsides, and is very hardy and adaptable. The young leaves can also be eaten in salads, and the plant self-seeds readily. Ribwort plantain is a well-known medicinal plant in Romanian folk tradition.
