They flower abundantly from summer to autumn and have a distinctive scent that keeps certain garden pests away. They are often planted among vegetables as natural protection against nematodes and some insects. The plant is very easy to grow and prefers sun and ordinary soils. Marigolds are a fixture of Romanian gardens, both decorative and useful.
