The young leaves are used cooked, in soups, purées and pies, the sting disappearing with cooking. The plant is traditionally used as a spring tonic and for teas that benefit the body. It grows vigorously on nitrogen-rich soils, in sun or partial shade, and returns year after year. Nettle is also a valuable natural fertiliser, used to make plant feeds.
