Rocket (Eruca vesicaria) is an annual plant with narrow, lobed leaves prized for their peppery, mustard-like taste. The young leaves are eaten raw in salads, on pizza or in sandwiches, adding a distinctive aromatic note. The plant grows very quickly, prefers cool weather and can be harvested repeatedly. It is rich in vitamins and minerals and easy to grow, including in pots on a windowsill. Rocket has become very popular in modern Mediterranean cooking for its intense flavour.
